KINGSTON FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES WINNER OF “10 YEARS, 10 MINUTES” AWARD

Winner to receive $5,000 cash and industry mentoring to produce short film in Kingston

Kingston – The Kingston Canadian Film Festival is pleased to announce the winner of its “10 Years, 10 Minutes” Award contest. Colette Lacoursiere (writer/director), along with her teammates Lenny Epstein (producer), Michael Catlin (producer), and Josh Lyon (editor), has won $5,000 cash and industry mentoring to produce Ruby Can’t Fail, a short film that will premiere at the Festival in 2010.

The “10 Years, 10 Minutes” Award, a special initiative in celebration of the Festival’s upcoming 10th anniversary, was developed to support and foster the local filmmaking community by providing cash and mentoring to produce a short film in Kingston. The contest attracted submissions from 12 teams comprised of more than 30 local filmmakers. Jury members included Blaine Allan (professor, Department of Film & Media, Queen’s University), David Brady (filmmaker), Audrey Cummings (Queen’s alumna and filmmaker), Alex Jansen (festival founder and chair), and Clarke Mackey (professor, Department of Film & Media, Queen’s University).

“Once again we were impressed and awed by the talents of our local filmmaking community. The jury really loved the script for Ruby Can’t Fail and it was backed by a strong production team,” says Festival Director Alison Migneault. In addition to the $5,000 cash, Lacoursiere will receive one-on-one mentoring from filmmaker Audrey Cummings and other film industry professionals throughout the production of the film. Full details about the “10 Years, 10 Minutes” Award are available on the Festival’s official Web site: www.kingcanfilmfest.com.

About Ruby Can’t Fail

After 10 years in Hollywood struggling to make it as an actress and realizing that most of her roles have consisted of playing dead bodies on crime shows, Ruby Keebler admits she has pretty much failed. She is deep into her 30s, with no job, no husband, no kids, and no prospects. Now what? Ready for change but with few options, she returns home to the small lakeside town where she grew up.

How will Ruby face everyone and everything she once left behind? Will Ruby stay and tough it out or give her dreams one more try? Follow her as she struggles to find the way to her future through her past.
