Time: Saturday - 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Sunday - 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Location: Council for the Arts in Ottawa, Arts Court, 2 Daly Avenue, Ottawa
Course Overview:
Many artists find the legal aspects of managing their art careers to be complicated and confusing, and don't learn what they need to know until a legal issue has already arisen. This two-day workshop encourages artists to take a proactive approach to the legal aspects of their career rather than a reactive approach. Come and learn about how to avoid legal issues before they arise, rather than waiting until you encounter a legal problem that you have no idea how to tackle!
This course will educate you about: basic copyright law; approaches to copyright licensing; the benefits of using contracts in your professional dealings; and tips for negotiating agreements that protect your interests. You will also learn about ways to enforce and protect your legal rights should you encounter problems, such as small claims court.
Topics covered:
- Copyright and moral rights
- Common legal terms & their definitions
- Tips for negotiating contracts
- Enforcing & protecting your legal rights
