Suzanne Berton
Her Biography - Her Poetry
A Francophone girl, Suzanne Berton was born in 1956
in Sudbury, Ontario. Influenced by her Father's love for drawing,
she inherited his talent at an early age. However, it wasn't until
she turned 30 that she began her real journey of discovery in art.
For several years she did figure drawing at Thunder Bay's Art Gallery
located at Confederation College, studying the human form. In addition
to this, she took many night courses in art to develop her skill.
A simple course in drawing at Confederation College made a difference
in her talent. Suzanne has worked for more than 25 years developing
her skill and style, which includes pencil or ink drawings, watercolour
and acrylic portraits, landscapes and still life through everyday
practice. In her view, drawing portraits is her strongest talent.
In 1990, she sold a body of work to the Ontario Government and
her works can still be seen in a few of Sudbury Ontario's Government
buildings. In 2004, she displayed some of her artwork at the Canadian
Mental Health Association in Kingston. Also in 2004, her work can
be viewed on different pages of www.CANGRANDS.com. Her work is also
being shown on other web sites in Canada and she hopes more will
do so in the future.
In May of this year, she presented a body of work at the Gallery
Les coups-montés at the Salon Brisebois of the Frontenac
cultural centre on Dalton. She is preparing to show her art in October
of this year at the Upstairs Gallery of Kingston.
In Kingston, Ontario, her wood relief carvings were born from a
desire to simply give it a try. Suzanne really enjoys this means
of transmitting her talent and ideas and she hopes to share her
talent with the public.
Suzanne a travaillé
She is pleased to say that she completed an art exhibit
here in Kingston at the Centre culturel Frontenac on Dalton in May
of 2004. Her art is being used on a couple of web sites, CANGRAND.com,
Kingcore Holdings Ltd. Artisan
Alley, and others. In addition to her art, Suzanne has spent
years writing creatively and thirty four of her
pieces are now published on My
Town.

Big shots
by Suzanne Berton
I met the big shots
In a town of concrete
Rubbing shoulders
Metal clinking
At their breasts
They lived and danced
In a wooden hall
Sharing stories
Spitting words
From stoned hearts
I observed from the corner
Big shots splitting teeth
Bragging up storms and gales
Mouths agape
Full of air
I left the big shots
In their stalls
Saluting statues
Cold, lifeless images
Pillars of themselves.
